John Mayer Trio

They're going to be in Minneapolis on Friday this week....like CB said, completely sold out....drag....

It's funny, because I can't help but see a bit of a parallel between Mayer and Hendrix, in his later years. Jimi was doing some phenomenal ahead-of-its-time stuff towards the end of his career (and life) but whenever he'd play live, people would just be yelling at him to play "Purple Haze" and his other radio-friendly hits....

It kills me to think that probably a third of the people that have tickets to the show (which I can't get into!) can't even pronounce "Palladino" and are going to be yelling "Why Georgia" the whole time...

Hopefully they'll put out a Trio DVD soon....

Too bad you can't get in. Yeah, there were a lot of women screaming, "I love you John" in between the tunes. I don't think they realized who Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino were or how heavy the gig was. I was screaming, "I love you Jordan" after Cissy Strut. [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]wink.gif[/img]

I found new respect for John Mayer after hearing a recording of him with Herbie Hancock's 'Headhunters 2005'. A live band with enough chops to start an earthquake; Herbie on piano and synths, Marcus Miller on bass, Terri Lyne on drums, Kenny Garrett on sax, Roy Hargrove on trumpet, Munyungo Jackson on percusion, and Lionel Louke and whould have thought it - John Mayer on guitar.

What is wierd is how well he actaully fitted into the band. His funky/bluesy/soulful playing burned over the likes of Chameleon and Actual Proof. I believe that Herbie features him on his new album which is why he was in the band.

Yeah he is very diverse & talented for sure!

But... where are all the sound samples and video clips of his trio!?!?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nir Z played on most of the Genesis disc "Calling All Stations". This disc was a big disappointment to me.
